Emergencies

What to do when things go wrong

At Helena Street Dental Midland, we understand how accidents often seem to happen at the worst possible time. Here we have provided some information that can assist you should an accident or dental emergency occur. This can be the difference between saving and losing a tooth.

If you have a dental emergency, please contact our practice for advice. Alternatively, make an online emergency appointment. Click on the tab on the right of screen.

Toothache

You should never place aspirin or any other pain relief medication directly against the gums or the aching tooth. If at any stage you feel ill, suffer from swelling or a temperature you should immediately attend our practice or your closest emergency room.

Knocked Out Tooth

Hold the tooth by the crown not the root and rinse with cold running water if it’s dirty (10 seconds). Do not scrub it or remove any attached tissue fragments. If possible, gently insert and hold the tooth in its socket, be sure it’s the right way around. If that isn’t possible, place the tooth in a cup of milk or wrap it in cling film (Glad Wrap). Avoid storage in water. Contact Helena Street Dental Midland immediately.

Possible broken Jaw

Apply cold compresses to control swelling. Contact Helena Street Dental immediately or go to your local hospital emergency department.

A Broken Tooth

Rinse your mouth with warm water to clean the area. Place a cold compresses on the area to reduce swelling. Call Helena Street Dental Midland immediately for further advice.
