Fissure Sealants Midland

Filling the grooves

Fissures are the deep grooves in the back molar teeth. Young children can find these areas very difficult to clean thoroughly as they don’t often have the dexterity to hold their toothbrush firmly. This can lead to the development of cavities.

Fissure sealant is a liquid resin similar in consistency to nail polish, which flows into the back teeth to fill the grooves, setting hard after a few minutes. This makes the surface of the tooth smooth and easier to clean, creating a protective barrier against plaque, bacteria and cavities.

The application of fissure sealant is a very simple, completely pain-free procedure, only taking a few minutes to do each tooth and will last for several years.

To ensure the fissure sealant is still in place as your child’s teeth develop it’s important you bring your child in to see the Helena Street Dental Midland team for a check-up every six months.

If you have any questions about fissure sealant or your child’s dental care talk to our team at your next appointment. Please feel free to call us on (08) 9250 3100 or visit our practice at 2/42 Victoria Street, Midland WA 6056.
